ABOUT THE MERRYMEN OF BARBADOS........... For nearly 30 years these five talented musicians have been thrillling audiences all over the world with their spirited calypso and Caribbean music. Since first establishing themself at Expo 67 this Bajan treasure has appeared at Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Gardens in New York City, Royal Albert Hall and Trafalgar Square in London, England, Superbowl XIII and Orange Bowl in Miami (half-time shows) and aboard the Cunard Queen Elizabeth Cruise Ship. These musical ambassadors of Barbados have performed at Massey Hall, O'Keefe Center, Ontario Place Forum and Hamilton Place.
Their driving rythems and happy sounds have been recorded on 26 albums (their Big Bamboo reached number one in Europe) and several of their compositions have become standards in the Caribbean and have been covered by other international artists. In fact they have more hits than any other Caribbean group. Their unique sound once heard is easily recognizable and along with their easy ability to project a warm relationship with their audience, there is always a demand for their services. This past May, the Caribbean Music Industry awarded THE MERRYMEN OF BARBADOS THE 1997 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. It was a great honor considering the legendary BOB MARLEY was awarded the same award prior to his death. |
